Arteta lavishes praise on Gunners team-mate ahead of Champions League clash
Germany international Ozil became Arsenal’s record signing when Arsene Wenger splashed out £42 million for the Real Madrid attacking midfielder earlier this season.
He has proved an instant hit at the Emirates, scoring four times so far, including Arsenal’s opening goal against Everton at the weekend, as well as providing a clutch of assists for his team-mates.
Arsenal take on Napoli tonight with the chance to secure their qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League, and midfielder Arteta believes Ozil could prove a key player on the night.
“The arrival of Mesut Ozil has had a huge impact,” Arteta told Sky Sports. “It sent a message to other teams about us which has made a psychological impact on the pitch.
“He is someone on the pitch who can win the game by himself. The more players you have like that the better chance we have to win the games.
“He is a very special player. But there is competition throughout the whole squad, not just the midfield now. When there is competition everyone works harder and it raises the level."
Arsenal follow tonight’s clash in Naples with an equally-important Premier League clash against ManchesterCity at the weekend, and Arteta believes teams are now scared of the Gunners.
He said: "We have more belief and we are starting to create a bit of fear in the opposition and that gives us a better chance to win.
“When you are on a good run and the confidence level is high, it makes everything much easier. We know there will be tough moments this season and it will be important that this team reacts well when that happens.”
