Piers Morgan names Rooney as the only United player in a combined Arsenal XI

Rooney V Cardiff

Wayne Rooney is the only player Piers Morgan feels could get into a combined Arsenal and Manchester United XI.

Arsenal fans are having a bit of fun at the moment, and why not, we are sure that they have been the butt of many a joke in the past from a Manchester United fan or two.

So now The Gunners are sitting high on their lofty perch, five points clear of Liverpool and Chelsea they can looked down and gloat at United - who are languishing in ninth position, a surely unassailable 13 points behind the North London side.

The fact is that on paper the Arsenal team now looks stronger. Their young players have developed, their central defenders have formed a stingy partnership while Mesut Ozil has just tightened everything up since his arrival - this Arsenal team look like going all the way.

One man who will hope so, but this time last year was probably calling for Wenger’s head on a platter and dubbing Aaron Ramsey a waste of space, is Piers Morgan.

The broadcaster and journalist is potentially the most famous Arsenal fan on Twitter with over three million followers on the social networking site.

One of which, is the betting website Paddy Power, who asked him yesterday to name his ultimate Arsenal and Manchester United combined XI for the Premier League era.

He did that, and we ran a story on it yesterday.

But then, of his own accord, he decided to name his current Arsenal and United XI...

Just Rooney then from Manchester United. In reality he actually might have a point. De Gea and Szczesny are probably even and Evra might be able to push Gibbs for the spot but it really just shows how quickly things have changed between the two clubs.
