Defender Phil Jones scored the winning goal in the second half to earn the Red Devils all three points on the night in front of the home crowd.
Phil Jones was ‘buoyed’ by the victory, which he described as ‘massive’ to Sky Sports.
"It was a massive win. We had to bounce back and get the win,” stated the Englishman.
"We have had a disappointing few weeks, it's been well-documented, but we have to pick ourselves up from it and hopefully we can go on some sort of run now.”
Boss David Moyes hopes United can build a run following the victory in midweek in the Champions League.
Moyes said: "I think a club like Manchester United always has to be trying to win the trophy. The teams in this competition are very good, as everyone knows, but I think you need to get better as the tournament goes on.”
Meanwhile, United’s run of televised FA Cup matches continues as their third round clash with Swansea is set to be shown on BT Sport on January 5th making it 42 FA Cup games in a row that have been shown live on television.
In transfer news, United are linked with South American youngsters – The Sun claims United are chasing Argentine youngster Bruno Zuculini who is also a target of Manchester City and Brazilian teenager Mosquito is also linked with the Red Devils along with Benfica’s Nicolas Gaitan.
In other news, United legends paid tribute to the late Bill Foulkes whose funeral was held in Manchester this week. Sir Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and Nobby Stiles were amongst those gathered to pay their respects to survivor of the 1958 Munich air disaster.
