In what could perhaps be a good sign, Chelsea youth battered Steaua Bucharest by a 5-0 margin and, in doing so, maintained a 100% record as the victory at Cobham on Tuesday was their sixth win in a row in the competition.
John Swift, Alex Kiwomya, Islam Feruz (twice) and Ambrose Gnahore were responsible for returning the goals.
The UEFA Youth League resumes in 2014 and Chelsea could face one of the following: Shakhtar Donetsk, FC Kobenhavn, Paris Saint Germain and AC Milan. One of Napoli or Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid, FC Porto or Austria Vienna will also be eligible.
Manager Jose Mourinho recently joked that Chelsea's defence was so porous that even the training dummies could score against them. Branislav Ivanovic may not see the funny side as he hopes concessions can become a thing of the past.
He is quoted by Express & Star to have said: 'As a defender, you're always worried when you concede a goal. It's always important to not concede a goal and to keep a clean sheet. This, game by game, gives confidence for defenders and gives the stability for the team.
'For us as a defence line we will do everything to not concede a goal and try to do our best. In some goals we lost concentration. We conceded a couple of goals from set-pieces as well which is not usual for us. We know how strong we are in that part and we just have to get back to normal.
'We change a lot of small things for every game depending on the opponent. All these things have to work perfectly to not concede a goal.'
Meanwhile, German press Kicker claim Wolfsburg could rescue Kevin de Bruyne from Stamford Bridge.
