The Premier League era has had two dominating teams in that time. The likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers have all been there and knocked them off their perch now and again but Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United and Arsene Wenger era Arsenal are certainly the two teams that are most synonymous with Premier League success.
But who would make a team combined from both the Premier League era United and Arsenal?
It is a tough question, and one we are glad not to have a stab at.
But one man never afraid to stick his two cents in is Arsenal megafan Piers Morgan and his Tweets about the club gets football fans more fired up then a drunken moose.
And this question was posed to him today by the official Twitter account for betting website Paddy Power.
He took five minutes and went with this for his team…
MY ARSENAL/UTD TEAM OF PREMIER LEAGUE ERA: Seaman, G Neville, Adams, Ferdinand, Cole, Vieira, Scholes, Giggs, Ronaldo, Henry, Bergkamp.— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) December 10, 2013
First of all, wow - what a team.
The defence first of all is magnificent and as for an attacking trio of Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo - that would be frightening.
The one decision that has come in for criticism on the social networking site is to play David Seaman instead of Peter Schmeichel - and I am inclined to agree that the Great Dane should have been in there.
But each to their own, and Seaman was still a cracking keeper.
The Arsenal fan did throw Schmeichel on the bench however along with an interesting choice as manager…
SUBS: Schmeichel, Stam, Pires, Cantona, Keane. MANAGER: Ferguson.— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) December 10, 2013
It is a fairly balanced side - and he shows no bias with half of the starting XI outfield side Manchester United players. In fact only one Arsenal man gets on the bench, Robert Pires, although he opted for Pat Rice ahead of the ‘Wally with the Brolly’ or Carlos ‘managed in every country in the world’ Quieroz…
What do you make of the team? Anybody missing?
