Jerome Boateng, who had a short stint at Manchester City before he really excelled as a defender in Munich, said today: “They won’t think of Arsenal yet” as City will face the Gunners next weekend in Premier League.
“It is about the first place,” Boateng continued, “they will certainly give full throttle.”
However the reigning treble champions are huge favourites to win this game as the Bavarian club won their last 11 matches and already beat Manchester City away from home.
Boateng’s new club also won their last ten Champions League matches and scored seven goals against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga last Saturday. “We want to continue there,” the German international said.
Another player will be in the spotlight on Tuesday: Newly acquired Spanish international Thiago Alcantara.
After an long lasting injury he is finally making strides and will most likely start against Manchester City. The midfielder, who was heavily target by City rivals Manchester United, is able to show what the Red Devils missed.
To rub even more salt in the wound Thiago said about the transfer to Munich: “I made the best decision in my life. I’m very happy to be here.”
Interesting side note: Munich’s manager Pep Guardiola said today about the rumour that Manuel Neuer could leave for Manchester City to become their goal keeper “No chance”, full stop.
