The most consistent team in England this season, Arsenal are currently atop of the Premier League with a five point cushion thanks to a points return of 35 from 15 matches.
Since a 4-1 victory over Norwich City in mid-October, Arsenal have only conceded twice in the league, with one of those concessions arriving yesterday, after Gerard Deulofeu equalised for visiting Everton.
Their defence is not in question… it is rarely breached and the only times a team has scored more than once against the Gunners was in the League Cup against Chelsea, when Arsene Wenger fielded a weakened selection, in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund and on the opening day of the season, a 3-1 loss to Aston Villa.
The area Arsenal's most vocal social media commentator, Piers Morgan, believes Wenger most needs to bolster is, of course, not at the back, but up front, and the US-based Englishman alludes to the need to fortify the position when the transfer market reopens for trading as other big clubs, like Chelsea and Manchester United, will both be in the recruitment business.
Chelsea and United will both buy big in January. We MUST get a world class striker. #Afc— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) December 8, 2013
Morgan, for all of his detractors on Twitter, may be on to something. Chelsea have long been linked with an apparently disgruntled Radamel Falcao (15 rumours printed by the newspaper media since September) and the Colombian will likely fetch a £60m fee.
Manchester United, meanwhile, may look at a number of positions and sign players such as Leighton Baines, Koke Resurreccion, Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera.
For Morgan, there is only one logical addition to Arsenal's roster to be made, a potentially £100m man he has urged Wenger to purchase since two doomed bids in the summer…
I'm going to say it again - we should bid £100m for @luis16suarez . He's the best predatory goal-scorer in the world.— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) December 8, 2013
