Manchester City latest: Four to miss Bayern game, Pogba regret & £40m move dismissed

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

As Manchester City prepare to face Bayern Munich in their final Champions League group match tomorrow, they will do so without a quartet of suspended or injured players.

The Manchester Evening News reports that Gael Clichy, Stevan Jovetic and Matija Nastasic all remained at home due to injury, while Yaya Toure is suspended.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini has already said that he sees next week’s Premier League match against Arsenal as more important than the match against the European champions; and given that both sides have already qualified for the first knock-out stage, few would disagree with him.

However, there is more positive news with David Silva likely to feature for the first time since early November.

Speaking about the match, Bayern coach Pep Guardiola said he is wary of Pellegrini’s men.

In quotes published by the BBC, the Spaniard said, “I know how dangerous Manchester City are.

They have great players. They can get three or four chances within minutes.”

Guardiola also took the time to dismiss weekend reports linking City with a £40million move for Bayern ‘keeper Manuel Neuer.

When asked about the possibility he simply said, “No chance.

And finally, former City boss Roberto Mancini has revealed that Paul Pogba could have been a City player if things had worked out differently.

Speaking to Tuttosport, the Galatasaray coach said, “Two years ago, before he went to Juventus, we could have signed him for Manchester City on a free transfer. I can’t really remember why we decided not to.”

Whatever the reason, if Mancini's claim is true the club are no doubt kicking themselves given the Frenchman’s contribution since his switch to Turin.
