Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Carl Jenkinson performance v Everton

Carl Jenkinson 2

How did Carl Jenkinson get on against Everton?

Arsenal's first choice right-back Bacary Sagna pulled up with an injured hamstring last week, handing deputy Carl Jenkinson an opportunity.

It was one he immediately seized against Hull, not only keeping a clean sheet but delivering the second minute cross for Nicklas Bendtner to score.

He was picked to start against Everton, and with Sagna likely to miss out in midweek - a key role against Napoli could be heading his way.

Is he up to it? Usually Jenkinson is dependable when called upon, although does have an error his his locker as displayed by his poor headed backpass against Chelsea in the League Cup this season which led to a goal.

There is one key statistic from yesterday's game against Everton which could cause for concern -

Jenkinson was the only defender on the pitch not to make a single tackle or interception.

Opposite full-back Kieran Gibbs made three tackles and four interceptions by comparison. Gibbs also made twice as many clearances (6) as Jenkinson (3).

Jenkinson's passing however was better - completing 84 per cent of his passes compared to Gibbs 75 per cent.

The right-back recorded the same figures for his crossing as he did against Hull, delivering three into the box, with just one finding a teammate. Against Hull that was good enough for an assist.

Jenkinson hasn't started an away game for Arsenal since October 6 against West Brom, although Napoli's San Paolo stadium on Wednesday promises to be a far fiercer opposition.

Here is a look a how Gunners fans reacted to his performance...
