One area on the pitch where Arsenal are starting to consider their future options seems to be the right-back position. The hope of course will be that Bacary Sagna will remain at the club - but given the clubs policy on plus-30 players getting reduced contracts and restricted wages he might just have his head turned by Paris Saint-Germain or one of the many Turkish clubs being linked with his signature.
So The Gunners are going to find themselves linked with plenty of right-backs over the coming weeks until they sign one - or Sagna signs on.
Today it is Seamus Coleman being linked with a move to The Emirates Stadium - but a month ago it was Colombian star Juan Cuadrado.
The right or left wing-back has been La Viola’s star player so far this season.
Arsenal reportedly watched him score twice v Chievo in November, news he responded to warmly but also distantly:
"I did not know, I learned from you now. It's something that pleases me, but I'm happy here at Fiorentina and later we'll see."
That is a rhetoric he has since repeated -flattered but not interested in a move just yet. In fact he has even intimated his desire to sign a new contract with the Italian outfit.
But the interest in the player has now expanded.
Arsenal have been joined by Bayern Munich and now Barcelona in the pursuit for this flying flank-man - and his response yesterday certainly hinted at one day being interested in a move.
“There have been no contacts with Barcelona, but I’m working to improve myself and play for a big club. However, my mind is with Fiorentina, a club where I am fine. Barcelona are one of the clubs I follow the most because I like their style of play. Even at Fiorentina, possession is our strong point.”
His future at Fiorentina seems assured at least until the summer - but if he wants to move to a ‘big club’ who play Barcelona like football I can think of one team in England who might just fit the bill.
I’ll give you a hint … they are top of the table.
