Clement Grenier has admitted he would have been open to a switch in the summer, but is happy he changed his mind.
All last summer Arsenal were being linked with the signature of Lyon youngster Clement Grenier. Grenier has been compared to Samir Nasri in playing style and made his real breakthrough last season - featuring in 28 games and finally adding goals to his performances netting seven times with nine assists also to his name.
Such was the impressive nature of his 2012-13 campaign he earned himself a call-up to the French national team this year. #
“I have more or less made a decision about which club I want to join. I have made the choice for sporting reasons above all. Arsenal? It could well be them. There would be competition for places, but you get that at all big clubs and it does not stop me making my decision. I am still young, but I have always set myself targets and I do everything possible to exceed them.”
But no deal ever came together and Grenier went on to sign a two-year extension at the Stade Gerland keeping him with the club until 2016.
"I'm still on a learning curve. I posted six good months late in 2012/13, but I want to carry on for at least one more season at OL because I have a job to finish."
He later intimated that he did this so his club could receive a better sum for his services should they decide to sell him.
But today he confirmed that an exit was certainly on his mind this summer.
Reflecting on his campaign so far - which has not been as impressive as last term - he started to speak about the summer transfer debacle, and stated:
"A departure last summer? Initially, I was not against it. Finally, I took my time on thinking what was best for me. Now, I want it to happen better and better with the OL. For me it is a little complicated lately, but I will not let go. For this winter, a priority, the club has decided not to sell me. In football anything can go fast, but it is not relevant today. I decided to continue with the OL , they helped me a lot since I was little. At the moment, I do not see myself away from the club. "
