Manchester United transfer news: £17m man linked but Moyes dampens January hopes

A select round-up of transfer news relating to Manchester United

He may have only joined Roma last summer, but that has not stopped Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman from being regularly linked with a switch to Manchester United.

And now the Daily Star Sunday claims Phil Neville was in attendance to watch Holland play Colombia recently, and have decided today is as good a day as any to run another Stootman to Old Trafford story.

The player has been in majestic form since his £17million switch from PSV Eindhoven, and there is no doubt he would considerably improve David Moyes’ midfield. But it is likely to take considerably more than Roma’s outlay to get their man, and in truth why would the Italian club let him go just one year into his current contract?

Still…it is fun to speculate.

Not that Moyes wants United fans to get too excited about January. Speaking to the Express after yesterday’s defeat to Newcastle United, the United boss said, “I don’t think I will feel under pressure personally to buy players.

I will try to do the right things. If we think it is right for the club we will do so. If not, we will look again in the summer.

I tend to take my time and try to assess what are the best talents to bring in.”

That is all well and good, but United need a drastic midfield overhaul as soon as possible. And time, for Moyes and his men, is of the essence.
