Footballer Kevin Walker of Irish descent has won the Swedish version of singing competition Pop Idol

Kevin Walker was born in Orebro, Sweden and has spent his whole football career in the Scandinavian country. He has spent the last two years at GIF Sundsvall and the club has just won promotion into the top flight; Allsvenskan

He is regarded as one of his club's top players, but he is also a talented singer. He entered the Pop Idol competition not thinking he stood much chance. But he has come away with a recording contract after singing a duet with Robbie Williams in the final.

Such was the heavy schedule of the competition, it resulted in a few of GIF Sundsvall's matches being postponed. Luckily they still managed promotion, but it now remains unclear whether Walker will hang up his boots to pursue a career in the music industry.

He told Reuters he hopes to combine the two, but for now will just enjoy the moment. Kevin Walker's family have a strong footballing background. His father, Patrick, previously managed Swedish side Orebro. His brother, Robert, also plays in Sweden, for BK Forward.

Here is a clip of him in the final with Robbie Williams:
