Spurs enter battle for Soldado’s former team-mate – report

Tottenham are thought to be interested in a move for Valencia attacking midfielder Ever Banega.

Reports in the British press today are suggesting that Tottenham are ready to make a move to secure Argentine playmaker Ever Banega in the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old has emerged as a Premier League target after excelling in a mediocre Valencia side this season.

The Mestalla outfit are struggling with crippling debts, and as such are in no position to reject considerable offers – despite wanting to keep the tidy playmaker.

Spurs are thought to be ready to splash more cash in the new year, with a host of new players being linked with a move to White Hart Lane.

Banega has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, while Arsenal and Southampton are also thought to be monitoring the situation carefully.

The technically gifted midfielder is renowned for his skill on the ball and vision, but lacks pace and as such is generally utilised in a number ten role for Valencia.

He has 24 caps for Argentina and is hopeful of securing a place in the South American nation’s squad for next summer’s World Cup.

Despite considerable technical abilities, he also has quite a temper and can be feisty on the pitch, while he has been accused of inconsistency in the past.

Should Spurs be ready to move for Banega, the talented midfielder would cost in the £20 million mark.

The north London club have dealt with Valencia in the recent past, with Spurs signing Roberto Soldado from the La Liga club in the summer.
