On this day: Van Persie says I'm 'having the time of my life'; Wenger 'frustrated' by Walcott

On the 7th December 2012 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal and Manchester United.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 7th December 2013, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 7th December 2012…

Yes or The-No

On this day a year ago in the world of Arsenal FC they were beating West Brom 2-0 thanks to penalty kicks from Mikel Arteta - but the big news was the apparent annoyance Arsene Wenger was beginning to harbour toward his own player Theo Walcott - specifically in relation to his indecision over a new contract.

Walcott’s deal expired in the summer of 2013 and he was being linked with Liverpool, Chelsea, Juventus and even the likes of Spartak Moscow and Southampton were said to be keen.

Wenger stated:

“I have no news. I am frustrated. He knows what I want and he has to make up his mind.”

Walcott eventually went on to sign a new three-and-a-half year deal at the club on the 18th January 2013 at the £100k-a-week he desired - after a decent spell of form convinced the club to make a move.

Robin van Persie was speaking of his time at Manchester United. He said to MUTV:

“I made my mind up quickly and I am coming into work with a big smile on my face every day. It is not really work, it is my hobby. I love football, but everyone has been so nice and I have been having the time of my life. So I don’t regret that decision.”

A year later and rumour has it he is not so happy at Manchester United and his former club Arsenal are top of the league.
