Manchester United transfer news: Big blow as Brazilian nears new deal - report

A select round-up of transfer news relating to Manchester United

The Mirror has revisited the story that Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra could return to former club Monaco next summer.

The Frenchman has been tipped with a departure ever since his cryptic comments about not signing a new contract at Old Trafford for “personal reasons”, and while he later moved to clarify those comments, the reports continue.

The newspaper claims Claudio Ranieri’s side are keen to offer Evra substantial wages to make a return to his homeland. And should David Moyes be successful in signing long-term target Leighton Baines, Evra is unlikely to stick around to play second-fiddle to the England international.

In other transfer news, reported United target Fernando is set to be offered a new deal with FC Porto.

The Brazilian midfielder – nearing the end of his current contract – was tipped for a cut-price move to Old Trafford in January. But Portuguese newspaper A Bola is now reporting that Fernando and the club are closer to an agreement for him to remain at the champions.

The report adds that as part of the deal, Fernando will be among the highest earners at Porto.
