A select round-up of transfer news relating to Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Suso has confirmed he turned down the chance to stay at Anfield this season in order to further his footballing education on loan at Almeria.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the 20-year-old said, “Liverpool wanted me to stay; they didn’t say I had to go on loan. But I know there are a lot of good players at Liverpool. Maybe I wasn’t going to start games. I am young. The most important thing right now is that I have to play.”

Brendan Rodgers will be hoping the experience Suso has this season will see him return ready and able to fight for a regular first-team place with the Reds.

It has also been revealed that Rodgers would have preferred not to lose Stewart Downing last summer.

The winger comes face-to-face with his old club later today as he travels back to Anfield with West Ham United, but speaking to the Liverpool Echo Rodgers said, “Stewart was arguably a player I didn’t want to lose to be honest.

Throughout pre-season he played a prominent role and then towards the end of pre-season he had to be sold in order for us to maybe invest in other players.

I like Stewart a lot. Every time I’ve seen West Ham this season he has been one of their best players.”

Rodgers will be hoping that is not the case today.
