Could Juan Mata replace former Chelsea man Robben at Bayern?

Reports in Spain and Germany are linking the European champions with a spectacular move for the Spanish playmaker.

Speculation over Juan Mata’s future continues to bubble in the British press, with the mercurial Spaniard seemingly resigned to being a bit-part player under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.

The former Valencia man is said to be frustrated with the lack of regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge this season, with links to a move away from west London rife.

Mata was an essential part of the Blues’ team last season, but has had to watch on from the sidelines as the likes of Oscar and Eden Hazard play ahead of him.

The latest reports from Marca and AS in Spain, and Bild in Germany, is that Bayern Munich could well be eyeing up a spectacular move for the unsettled midfielder in the January transfer window.

Pep Guardiola is said to be a major fan of the playmaker, and has been struck down with news that Arjen Robben is set to be on the sidelines for a prolonged period with injury.

As such the former Barcelona manager may look to a loan move in the new year to add to his extensive attacking options, with Mata one of the candidates.

For the Spaniard, a return to regular first-team football is needed if he is to make Vicente del Bosque’s World Cup squad, but whether he would receive this at the Allianz Arena remains to be seen.
