Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay has long been linked with a move to Manchester United; so much so that a deal was reportedly agreed to bring the Argentine centre-back to Old Trafford, only for David Moyes to decide against the deal following his appointment last summer.
Whether or not that is true, a number of clubs both in England and elsewhere have since been linked with the former Real Madrid man. And now Chelsea can be added to that list.
Last tipped to make a move for the player prior to the opening of the summer transfer window, it appears Jose Mourinho could attempt to make it second time lucky if reports in Portugal and Italy are to be believed.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola has followed up on a report from Calcio News claiming both Chelsea and Inter Milan have joined the queue for Garay.
With Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City also reportedly tracking the 27-year-old, it is anyone’s guess where he will end up if he does leave Benfica next summer.
But given recent reports, there is more than a slight chance that both Garay and Nemanja Matic could join and return to Chelsea respectively in the not-too-distant future.
And with the addition of a new striker, the Blues could have everything in their armoury to challenge both domestically and in Europe.
