The 21-year-old has endured a difficult time since moving to Old Trafford from Crystal Palace over the summer in a £15 million deal agreed in January.
He’s featured just twice for the Red Devils thus far in the campaign, neither time in the Premier League, clocking up 139 total minutes of football between a showing in the Community Shield against Wigan and the 4-0 dismantling of Norwich in the Capital One Cup in late October.
BBC Sport have maintained that Zaha could be sent out on loan in January in order to gain experience at the top level as he struggles to break into the first team at United, with Newcastle and Cardiff each tipped to make a move for him.
Phil Neville has opined that the winger has fallen on hard times due to not anticipating the high level of expectations with the champions, whilst another particularly high-profile theory alleging Zaha has engaged in an affair with Moyes’ daughter Lauren has made its way through every medium possible.
Yet after months of speculation, the youngster has come forward to fully deny the swirling rumours via social media, having made a more cryptic comment on the matter on Twitter in October.
I've never dated or even met David moye's Daughter so that isn't the reason for my absence in games ...— Wilfried Zaha (@wilfriedzaha) December 6, 2013
I would like to stop all these false accusations .. I will play for Manchester United when my manager feels I'm ready ...— Wilfried Zaha (@wilfriedzaha) December 6, 2013
Zaha contends that he’s never even had contact with Moyes’ daughter, and that the new United manager will begin handing him opportunities on the pitch when they’re deserved from a footballing standpoint.
Whether he now is granted a run of games at Old Trafford remains to be seen, but the spotlight surely has been firmly planted on the 21-year-old’s involvement in the squad going forward.
