Six days down; 25 to go until the Transfer Window opens... Here are the top five stories from the past 24 hours...
1) Gareth Barry says he wants to make his loan move to Everton permanent at the end of the season. The defensive midfielder has been in excellent form since his deadline day switch from Manchester City, and his contract runs out in the summer meaning he can sign for free. Barry revealed to Everton's website that there was contact between his representatives and Arsenal over a summer transfer, but the Gunners went for Mathieu Flamini instead. Everton and Arsenal meet in a Premier League clash on Sunday at 4pm.
2) Former Liverpool defender and BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has claimed on radio Robin van Persie has handed in a transfer request at Manchester United, report the Irish Mirror. Van Persie has been out injured since the international break. However such talk should continue to be treated with suspicion. Just yesterday we reported that talks were just hearsay with Times journalist James Ducker calling them 'complete rubbish', however Lawrenson's comments have re-ignited the debate.
3).Former Tottenham and Fulham man Clint Dempsey believes a return to the Premier League could be settled soon. It is reported by the Seattle Times that he has a clause in his MLS contract permitting a move if he wants one, and a bevy of clubs in England are said to be interested. Newcastle and former club Fulham have both been linked recently and will wait upon further developments.
4) Reports in Spain have claimed Barcelona are willing to let Alex Song leave for £10 million, which have also been picked up by The Star. Naturally former club Arsenal have been linked - who sold him for £15 million, while Manchester United have also been suggested as an option in recent months. Premier League sides may not have it all their own way however, with Napoli tipped just last week, and PSG also likely to have him on their radar with defensive midfield regular Blaise Matuidi still not renewing his contract which expires next summer.
5) Chelsea want to keep Oriol Romeu at the club write The Express, impressed by his recent form on loan at Valencia. The Spaniards are keen to keep the ex-Barcelona player but Chelsea are said to have knocked back attempts to negotiate a transfer with Jose Mourinho standing firm.
