Rafa Benitez is thought to be keen to raid the Premier League for Bacary Sagna and Johnny Heitinga come the new year.

Arsenal’s Champions League opponents Napoli are thought to be ready for an aggressive January transfer window to further their good start to the new season.

Rafa Benitez is thought to be scouting the Premier League for potential new signings, with the Spanish boss keen to sign defenders in the new year.

Two names that have emerged as potential targets for the San Paolo club are Bacary Sagna and Johnny Heitinga, who may both be available at the turn of the year.

Sagna has played an important role in Arsenal’s rise to the top of the Premier League table, and is the first-choice right-back in Arsene Wenger’s starting XI.

However, the France international’s contract at the Emirates Stadium is set to expire this summer, and as such the Gunners need to find a solution, and quick, if they intend to keep the full-back.

Sky Italia are reporting that Napoli are ready to make Sagna an offer in the new year, with either a fee agreed with the Gunners to see him move to Italy in January, or a pre-contract agreement to allow him to switch at the end of his contract.

Meanwhile, Voetbal International are stating that Heitinga is also been lined up as a potential addition, with a move in the new year likely for the Dutch defender.

With Sylvain Distin and Phil Jagielka forming a solid partnership at the heart of Everton’s defence, Heitinga has been on the fringes and has suffered from niggling injuries.

The experienced centre-half is yet to start a Premier League game this season, and has openly admitted that he is keen to secure a move in the new year to guarantee regular first-team football.

Napoli believe that Heitinga could offer experience and versatility, and would be available for a cut-price.
