Liverpool transfer news: Suarez going nowhere, defender set for loan

Some of the key stories surrounding Liverpool Football Club and transfer business at the club this Friday morning.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said there is no gentleman’s agreement that will allow striker Luis Suarez to leave the club at the end of the season according to the Guardian.

Suarez insisted after Liverpool’s 5-1 win over Norwich in midweek that he is happy at Anfield, and Rodgers has stressed there has never been an agreement and the club will fight to keep him.

‘There was never that [agreement] before and there never was that this summer. The contract was what it was. We want him to stay and with his contract running for two and a half years I am sure there will be something between now and the end of the season to keep him here but there will be a number of dependencies on that.

‘I think that all parties are fairly comfortable where it is at at the moment. There is no need to change that. The player is happy. We made our feelings known in the summer and it is where it is.’

Quotes from this morning’s papers would seem to back that up, with the Daily Mirror quoting Suarez from Spanish newspaper Marca, saying:

‘When I’m happy off the field, you can see it in my performance on the pitch so you can see I am happy here at Liverpool, and I will continue.’

Sporting Lisbon are keen to take centre-back Tiago Ilori on loan in the January window according to Sky Sports.

Brendan Rodgers has hinted he is set to send the player he signed in summer window from Sporting Lisbon on loan in order to get him some game time.

A Sporting source is quoted by Sky saying: ‘We have decided to study this subject but it depends on the Reds and formally we have not received any communication.’
