Hotshot Berahino models himself on Spurs man – but who?

West Brom’s Victor Anichebe has revealed the young prodigy wants to be like Jermain Defoe.

Saido Berahino has propelled himself into the footballing limelight with excellent performances and goals for West Brom and England under-21 this season.

The attacker has recently been awarded with a much-improved contract at The Hawthorns, while there is talk of the star being brought into the senior Three Lions squad in some quarters.

However, Baggies team-mate Victor Anichebe has revealed that Berahino idolises a member of Roy Hodgson’s current England squad.

“He’s an unbelievable finisher. I call him Defoe after Jermain at Tottenham because that’s how he is,” Anichebe said.

“He loves it. He calls himself Defoe. He follows him on Instagram and he thinks he is Defoe.”

Berahino has been in and out of the West Brom side this season, and Anichebe has urged the youngster to be patient in his search for a regular place in the Baggies starting XI.

“I speak to him sometimes because there are a few games when he’s come on as a sub and scored and then he’s got frustrated because he’s not started the next game,” Anichebe said.

“But every young player goes through that. At Everton I’d come on and score and then not start next game – it happens.

“He’s a really good player and a great finisher. He’s a young player with a lot of confidence and he just enjoys it. It’s nice to see someone who comes in every day and enjoys it.”
