There was a small pause before England's name was revealed during today's World Cup draw.
Group D already contained Italy and Uruguay, so when the announcer saw who Sir Geoff Hurst had picked out of the proverbial hat, he knew what it meant.
When the name was called out, there was no going back: Italy, Uruguay, England and Costa Rica had all been drawn in the same group. Andrea Pirlo and Luis Suarez, it seems, are going to be haunting us from now until June.
But how about this: Italian boss Cesare Prandelli is more worried about playing Costa Rica!
“We don’t have to be angry because of the draw, we’re at the World Cup and we must be happy," he told the Italian press.
"The toughest opponent? Costa Rica, because we don’t know them. Usually, when Italy is in a tough group, it always works out.
"Last year, we experienced the Confederations Cup, so we already know all the problems: heat, distances and so on. I’ll need 23 footballers, I’ll need 23 athletes."
Can England make it out of the Group of Death? Or will Italy, Uruguay - or even Costa Rica - send us packing at the group stage?
