An amazing World Cup draw has brought joy for the French and trepidation for England, while Germany are so strong it doesn't matter who they ended up with.
Even so, their group is in line to be a stormer- facing Portugal, Ghana, and USA.
That means Ozil and co go head to head with Cristiano Ronaldo, the Arsenal star facing three of his former Real Madrid teammates.
In reaction to the news, the Arsenal man posted a message on Twitter in reaction to the draw.
Hey, Cristiano, Pepe and Coentrao: i am happy to see you in brazil— Mesut Özil (@MesutOzil1088) December 6, 2013
It does promise of course to be an exciting game, but there is something extra at stake for Ozil.
Assuming Cristiano Ronaldo wins the Ballon d'Or as he is hotly tipped to do, if the German playmaker can fire his country past Portugal with a man-of-the-match performance in the process, he will elevate his own profile on the world stage even further.
An early chance for him to launch his own candidacy for the prize next year?
