A simple search for Robin van Persie on Twitter in the last few days will have worried Manchester United fans.
The latest "rumours" doing the rounds are that the Dutch international has handed in a transfer request at Old Trafford.
The gossip seems to have surfaced at the beginning of the week and prompted several journalists to deny their legitimacy outright.
Don't even know why I'm tweeting this to be honest but the rumours about Van Persie are complete rubbish— James Ducker (@DuckerTheTimes) December 3, 2013
Nevertheless, anxiety has intensified amongst United fans after the Flying Dutchman was left out of his side's 1-0 loss to Everton.
Van Persie has reportedly been at odds with David Moyes over the manager's training methods this season and some supporters are genuinely worried that the disagreements may have intensified to a point of no return.
However, with there being no word whatsoever from any official media outlets on the story, fans would be safe to assume that the latest rumours have no basis whatsoever.
Against Everton, the 30-year-old was once again left out due to injury.
And whatever may happen in the future - meaning that Lionel Messi could one day join Bolton Wanderers, we just don't know - Van Persie has most certainly not handed in a transfer request.
So if you, like many others, have been worried by the hoax, don't be: someone on Twitter has obviously made this up - and they have done very well for it to have even got to this stage.
