Former Liverpool stars stunned as Turkish minnows cause massive cup upset

Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce have been knocked out the Turkish Cup as the team currently bottom of the Turkish second division beat them 2-1 at home.

Last night saw a massive shock in Turkish football as Istanbul giants and six time Turkish Cup winners were dumped out of the competition at the fourth round stage - by a team currently languishing at the bottom of Turkish football’s second tier.

The perhaps most well-known name on the books at the TFF First League club is Cameroonian international Sammy N’Djock - but the rest of the books are pretty unknown.

Fenerbahce have a few more familiar names - especially to fans of Liverpool.

But Raul Meireles and Dirk Kuyt had to watch their team lose from the side-lines as the manager at the club decided to leave many star players out of the first-team.

You can understand why Fenerbahce felt a much changed side would be able to take on the Mediterranean resort team. They are playing in the second tier for the first time in their history - and are currently bottom with just six points from their first 14 games - and look doomed.

But nothing about their performance against Fenerbahce - where two late goals from Omur Okan and Ahmet Aras won them perhaps their most famous ever game - was doomed in the slightest.

On the night these minnows stunned former Liverpool stars and the rest of the Sukru Saracoglu into silence.

Here are the highlights from the game…
