Wayne Rooney to be suspended for Manchester United match v Newcastle

Another booking for the Manchester United man.

Newcastle United have been handed a big boost for their weekend clash with Manchester United by the news Wayne Rooney will miss the home fixture.

The England international picked up his fifth booking of the season against Everton, bringing an instant one-game suspension.

It is certainly a blow for the Red Devils, with Robin van Persie's injury status for the match unclear.

The Dutchman trained ahead of the Everton game but was ruled unfit and did not even make the bench.

Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez will otherwise be contending for starts against Alan Pardew's in form side.

Rooney has an impressive record against Newcastle, scoring 10 goals past the Magpies in 20 appearances.

Phil Jones missed the fixture against Everton after his fifth booking was picked up against Tottenham on Sunday, but will be available to return against Newcastle.
