Gary Lineker responds to Arsene Wenger comments on MOTD

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger isn't a fan of Match of the Day, a fact Gary Lineker apparently now acknowledges.

Keep writing Arsenal off, and they keep winning. It might actually be good for the Gunners.

As well as Michael Owen saying at the weekend the Gunners would finish 5th, Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer was categorical that they would not win the title.

Arsene Wenger was not impressed. He told The Mirror ahead of the Hull game: "Sometimes I watch it (Match of The Day), sometimes not. Sometimes it’s just someone saying their opinion without an argument on something. That can make sense. But if it’s something based on hate or love, or just gut feeling then I just say, ‘Okay, it’s an opinion - he might be right, he might be wrong. Often, he [the pundit] doesn’t sustain his opinion by some work he has done to support that argument."

However with a midweek Match of the Day before us, Gary Lineker did not miss an opportunity to have his say.

Lineker: "Four points clear Arsenal continue to defy these cynics who believe they can't win the title, including some of them from this very programme, and Arsene who's clearly a big fan of the show is not amused."

After showing the highlights he took Alan Shearer to task: "Arsene's come out publicly, he clearly watches MOTD, he's heard the opinions of yourself and Alan Hansen and numerous others, what do you think do you still stick by your guns?"

Shearer did not budge: "I'm not saying anything different to what Jose Mourinho says or what Pellegrini says am I, so em, no as impressed as I have been I said Chelsea at the beginning of the season and I'm not going to change my mind."

There was at least one backer for the Gunners. Studio guest and ex-Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler. He said: "They are the best team I have seen so far, can they win it? I think yes they can."
