Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport is reporting that Jose Mourinho is keeping an eye on Inter stopper Andrea Ranocchia.
The paper insists that Mourinho has made contact with the Nerazzurri to ask about the availability of Ranocchia.
The 25-year-old has 12 Italy caps to his name and climbed up the divisions after making a name for himself at Tuscan side Arezzo.
Ranocchia's contract with Inter expires in June 2015 and there have been suggestions that he could leave before that.
Various Italian media sources have linked Ranocchia with a move across Milan to AC Milan or a transfer to Juventus.
But Tuttosport insists that Ranocchia would be the ideal replacement for David Luiz, who is almost certain to leave Chelsea.
Inter have a wealth of defensive options at present even though they have suffered several injuries this season.
