All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…
A smattering of pre-Christmas mind-games it may have been, but the Portuguese does have something of a point. There is little doubt that Manuel Pellegrini has the most impressive collection of players at his disposal. But turning them into a title-winning collective is another matter.
One man whose return will make a huge difference is Vincent Kompany, who could be set for his first match since suffering a thigh injury.
In quotes published by the Express, Pellegrini said, “Vincent is important because he is a very good player and, of course, our captain. He will normally be in a starting XI.”
And yet the Chilean is right to bring up his side’s defensive record to date; in truth, Kompany’s replacements have not done too poorly in his absence. But his return will give them the added steel and confidence they need in the tricky months to come.
And finally, the Manchester Evening News reports that City officials have officially submitted plans to expand the Etihad Stadium.
The plans have been public knowledge since the summer, but the club have now passed them to Manchester council where they will be considered.
The plans involve expanding the current 47,620-seat stadium to 62,170.
