Juventus 'wanted Capello, Wenger or Garcia'

Arsene Wenger

Ex-Juventus director general Luciano Moggi claims Arsene Wenger, Fabio Capello and Rudi Garcia formed the shortlist for the Bianconeri bench in 2004.

Disgraced Juventus chief Luciano Moggi considered Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and current Roma revelation Rudi Garcia back in 2004 before appointing Fabio Capello.

Moggi, who was indicted during the Calciopoli scandal, often regales the Italian press with tales from his time in charge.

In the past he has told of how Juventus nearly signed Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo and now he has claimed that he predicted the rise of Garcia.

"I wanted him at Juventus," Moggi is quoted as saying by Tuttomercatoweb. "In 2004 he was part of a list of candidates for the bench that included Capello and Wenger.

"If Capello hadn't arrived, we probably would have gone for Wenger because he was better known but after that came Garcia.

"He's a good coach and he has a great relationship with players."

At the time in question, Garcia was still in the French third division where he led Digione to the French Cup semi-finals and promotion.

Garcia has enjoyed a fantastic start to life in Italy, leading Roma to the brink of a record 15 unbeaten league games to start the season.
