Zanetti goes Back to the Future

Inter honoured captain Javier Zanetti's remarkable return to fitness with a special captain's armband for the game against Sampdoria.

Javier Zanetti was written off by many when he suffered an Achilles tendon injury at the age of 40, but he has fought back and started the game against Sampdoria.

The Argentine defender returned as a substitute in Inter's 2-0 win over Livorno on November 9 and was ready to play from the first whistle against Sampdoria.

The Nerazzurri celebrated Zanetti's resilience by giving him a special captain's armband with the logo from the film Back to the Future, the date, and a picture of Zanetti alongside a picture of 'Doc' Emmett Brown.

Sadly for Zanetti, the evening was to end in disappointment as Sampdoria grabbed a last-gasp equaliser to draw 1-1.

It was especially frustrating for the hosts as they were entertaining new owner Erick Thohir who was attending his first Inter game.

After the game, coach Walter Mazzarri blasted his players, telling them it was the worst performance since he took charge of the club.

"We didn't start well and usually at home we dictate the tone of the game but today we allowed ourselves to be dragged down," the Inter tactician lamented.

"We made mistakes in defence but Sampdoria played a great game and deserved the point."
