Tottenham Hotspur - A point gained or two dropped?

Tottenham Pre Season WHL

Did Tottenham gain a point or lose two in the draw to Manchester United?

In the fast paced clash at White Hart Lane on Sunday between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United there were a number of positives to be taken from a Spurs fans’ perspective.

One of which being Aaron Lennon's performance, adding pace to the team which kept United worried. He worked well in tandem with a packed midfield combination of Dembele, Sandro and a more advanced Paulinho working extremely well seeing the latter almost as a second striker to the struggling Spaniard, Roberto Soldado.

Tottenham were rarely unlocked or threatened by the Manchester United attack, with Hugo Lloris barely having to make any major saves all game.

However, their solidity of their defence didn’t show on the scoresheet. Wayne Rooney is on fire at the moment and he seized his chances when he was presented with them.

At the end of the game, you could say that a draw was a fair result but Tottenham would probably feel the more likely to have deserved all three points.

Although it is a point gained against the Champions of England, they also dropped two points against a weakened Manchester United side who were without their main man Robin van Persie.

Tottenham’s performance really did show hints of the attacking style of football people are usually used to seeing them play, so maybe Andre Villas-Boas has had some success instilling this back into his side.

If this is the case, then going forward I truly believe we will see a different Tottenham side to the opening games of the season.

If Spurs can gain three points away to a Fulham team with no Martin Jol, this could be a very significant time in their season.

The draw may just be the start of a run, confidence gained from a draw against a side like United and the feeling they deserved more, may just give the club a platform on which to build.
