Arsenal keeper tips team-mates for award over United star

Vermaelen, Szczesny And Ramsey

Wojciech Szczesny has called for team-mates Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker to both be nominated for the Player of the Month award.

Arsenal's defensive effort this season has been huge in their bid for the league title and with the Player of the Month award around the corner, Szczesny has claimed the two Arsenal centre-backs deserve it more than most.

''If one of Laurent [Koscielny] or Per [Mertesacker] is not nominated for Player of the Month I will be amazed.

''We have conceded one goal in November. We have been great and playing behind all four of them is a pleasure for me.

''I have been working hard myself but the defence have helped me massively. It is smashing to play behind the same back four every week. You don't know how important that is.

''Yes I am keeping clean sheets but I have not had many saves to make''

Arsenal endured a tough November which looked to be a true test of their Champions League and Premier League credentials as they passed with flying colours.

Liverpool were the first team to fall to Arsenal in November, coming away with their tail between their legs after a 2-0 Arsenal win, thanks to goals from Ramsey and Cazorla.

Next-up was Champions League finalist Borussia Dortmund at the infamous Westfalenstadion, again Arsenal came away with a clean sheet winning 1-0.

Old Trafford was the only place Arsenal conceded this month with goal from former favourite Robin Van Persie, which gave United a much-needed win.

The confidence of the Arsenal defence wasn't knocked and have gone on to pick up 3 clean sheets in their last 3 games since that 1-0 defeat.

I am in no doubt that ONE Arsenal player should get the Player of the Month award since their opponents have been far from inadequate, but as for which one - I don't know.

I think Szczesny, Mertesacker, Koscielny and Ramsey are likely to be up for the gong, and the winner will be one out of those four.

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney is the only player currently a viable option to snipe the award from them, but it would be very harsh on a backline that have performed to near perfection for the who calendar month.

His individual qualities, compared to Arsenal's defensive collective could see him win the honour - unless Ramsey is considered above even the United man.
