Manchester United man should have followed his heart to Arsenal

Manchester United's Wilfried Zaha is a confessed Arsenal fan, could his season really have been any worse had he signed there instead?

Wilfried Zaha was the player who Manchester United fans came into the season with high hopes for, that he could kick the under-performing wingers at the club up the backside and dazzle from the very start.

It began promisingly with bright pre-season performances, and then the young England under-21 winger just dropped off the radar.

He scored for United's under-21 side last night in a 2-0 win against Blackburn, but the fact that was noteworthy in itself says a lot about his predicament.

Zaha amazingly is yet to play a single minute of Premier League football this season. Considering he has not been injured, it's quite a snub from manager David Moyes.

This is the same Zaha who was at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war this time a year ago, was capped by the senior England squad, and went onto be signed for £15 million.

The way his season has turned out so far, we cannot help but wonder if the winger feels he has made the wrong choice.

Zaha is, after all, an Arsenal fan. He told The Sun last season: "It was always Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal in terms of where I could be going. I have always supported Arsenal. I did not expect United to come in but they did. Arsenal are a good team but United are one of the best in the world."

He said it back then like United were clearly superior to the Gunners. But a look at the Premier League table indicates that if the pendulum hasn't swung yet, the big gap between the two clubs is no longer existent.

The way Arsenal's season has panned out would have suited Zaha too. With Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out with injuries, the ex-Palace man would have been handed opportunities in abundance.

The winger went with his head to Manchester, but really considering how it has all panned out for him so far - he probably should have gone with his heart instead.
