Barcelona suffered their first La Liga loss of the season, losing 1-0 away to Athletic Bilbao.
Featuring for Bilbao was Ander Herrera, completing 90 minutes for just the third time this season.
It could have been very different for the midfielder, he came within a paperwork mix-up of signing for Manchester United on transfer deadline day.
Since then the man with a 36 million release clause written into his contract has had a difficult season, struggling for form.
He last week came out and said he was putting the United saga behind him, and wanted to see out the season with Bilbao and concentrate on his football. The win over Barcelona will give him and his whole side confidence and help kickstart his 2013/14.
From a statistical point of view, Herrera's game was a mixed bag. Playing in an advanced role, he completed a poor 65 per cent of his passes, but did create two goalscoring opportunities.
He played his part defensively too, making five tackles as he helped keep the pressure on Barcelona.
Doubts certainly remain over whether he is worth the price Bilbao are refusing to budge from, but watching United supporters were left largely impressed by what they saw.
Here's what they had to say on Twitter regarding Herrera's display:
That Herrera looks some player, making Xavi and Iniesta look ordinary...he should be playing in our midfield, thanks Ed you muppet #MUFC— Neil (@neil_PJ) December 1, 2013
Herrera has been excellent against Barca tonight. His work rate is incredible as is all the Bilbao players. Hope Moyes is watching #mufc— Anthony O'Neill (@anthonyoneill16) December 1, 2013
Ander Herrera looks a talent, but not worth £30m. Probably £20 max... #MUFC— Kushal Malde (@kushm94) December 1, 2013
Ander herrera has the killer final pass that United are lacking. Sign him up #mufc— Usman Hussain (@uah9) December 1, 2013
