Arsenal currently sit atop the Premier League table, four points ahead of their nearest rivals. They have performed greatly so far this season considering it was all doom and gloom after the defeat against Aston Villa on the opening day. Their midfield has been superb and they have plenty of depth in that area, so it is a surprise to see them linked with a West Bromwich Albion midfielder.
The Metro has reported that Arsenal are planning a swoop for Baggies midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu. It seems Mulumbu himself is ready for a move away from The Hawthrons. The Metro quoted the Congo international saying: 'I have had approaches from Arsenal. I could leave this winter. This is the right time for me to set my sights higher. I’m ready to join a top-four club.
'We are not professional enough in the way we manage our games – for example our draw at Chelsea. We are not mature enough.'
Steve Clarke will obviously want to keep hold of his midfielder, but it will be hard to stand in his way. It is hard to see where Mulumbu would fit in to the Arsenal set-up. They have an abundance of midfielders, and it isn't an area that needs more depth. Clearly they should prioritise bringing in a defender and a striker. Arsenal's midfield has been superb this season, and they have all been contributing to goals.
