David Moyes may recall Nick Powell from his loan spell at Wigan Athletic
Nick Powell has been in superb form since his loan move from Manchester United to Championship side Wigan Athletic. The forward has scored six goals so far, and Moyes is wondering whether to recall Powell.
It is hard to believe that the former Crewe player is still just 19. Two seasons ago, he helped Crewe to promotion from League Two. He scored 16 goals in their promotion campaign, with his last, most important and one of his best goals coming in the play-off final against Cheltenham Town. He scored a great volley from outside the area to help them to a 2-0 win.
After featuring in a few cup games for United he was allowed to go out on loan to Wigan this year. That has given him the opportunity to test himself in the Europa League as well. He has scored three goals in five games in that competition, and has been a standout performer for the Latics this season.
Wigan have since recruited Will Keane on loan from United too, but Moyes may want to call back Powell according to The Express. However Moyes would then want to send Powell out on loan again, but this time to a Premier League side. Powell reportedly has a number of admirers in the top flight, and a move to one of those could aid his development further in Moyes' eyes.
Wigan manager Owen Coyle now has a battle on his hands to keep Powell past January. He would argue the player is settled there and is guaranteed a starting place, which might not be the case in the Premier League. However Powell may be tempted to test himself at the highest level, and he could provide an option for sides struggling for goals such as West Ham United and Fulham.
