Balotelli accuses Catania player of racist abuse

Balotelli

AC Milan marksman Mario Balotelli claims that Catania's Nicolas Spolli racially abused him during a 3-1 win in Sicily.

AC Milan continued their recent renaissance with a 3-1 win away to Catania but the win was overshadowed somewhat by allegations of racist abuse.

Balotelli netted Milan's second goal to give them a 2-1 lead before Kaka finished off the game.

Tensions flared between Balotelli and Spolli and the two had to be pulled apart with Balotelli insisting that the Argentine defender used a racially abusive term.

Catania coach Luigi De Canio has maintained that the incident was the result of a 'misunderstanding' but there will be a thorough investigation.

Several other Milan players and coach Massimiliano Allegri have been unable to shed any light as they didn't hear what was said.

Italian TV footage will be picked through to ascertain exactly what was said between the two men and if there was found to be racial abuse then Spolli faces a 10-game ban.

Milan appear to have been boosted by their Champions League win at Celtic and ending a run of a month without a Serie A win will have been a massive relief, especially for embattled coach Allegri.
