All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from Goodison Park...
After that thrilling 3-3 draw with neighbours Liverpool last week, Everton have had a fairly quiet week, which can mean only one thing with the January Transfer Window approaching – rumours of Landon Donovan signing for the Toffees again.
The Los Angeles Galaxy forward has had two previous spells with the club, and with the MLS season over, Donovan could arrive on Merseyside yet again, with many US players looking for loan moves to keep their form and fitness ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
Another American who has been linked with a switch to Merseyside is Clint Dempsey. The former Fulham and Tottenham midfielder is currently playing for MLS side Seattle Sounders, but much like Donovan, the 29 year old is looking for a loan move during the offseason. However, Everton boss Roberto Martinez has remained coy on the prospect of Dempsey arriving in the New Year.
"I'm sure there are going to be many links. We are looking at many players. We're looking at many possibilities. But it's not the time to talk about it now. We'll never speak about a player who is registered with another football club. Any links that you get, you're not going to be far wrong, but in the same way, you're not going to be far right either."
Meanwhile, current Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has admitted that he would be open to an extended stay at Goodison Park. The prolific Belgian is on loan from Chelsea, and declared that should Martinez guide the club into the Champions League, then he would like to remain with Everton.
"It's not a bad idea. If we play Champions League, yeah, why not?" said Lukaku. “I was watching the games this week and I miss European football a lot. I would like to be successful at Chelsea but I have to work and grow and be a better player and then at the end of the season see what is the best decision for my career."
