New signing Nacer Chadli had until last night yet to really show what he can do in a Spurs shirt, and this morning fans are still none the wiser.
This is not to write the player off, but it seemed to us that the experiment to play the Belgian in a central role only served to confirm that he is not the answer there.
The fact Andre Villas-Boas picked him in the position illustrated he is still some way short of working out his best side, or what to do in Christian Eriksen's absence.
Chadli signed for £7 million in the summer from Eredivisie side FC Twente, with the 24-year-old Belgian scoring twice in his opening 10 games.
He played 72 minutes, and during it he was guilty of striking all three of his shots on goal, off target. The positives were that his passing was good, creating one goalscoring chance, and recording an 89 per cent passing accuracy.
His crossing when he did get out wide was wasteful, with two of his seven attempts finding a teammate.
What was really telling however, was the reaction of supporters to his performance - and selection in the role he played, voicing their opinions on Twitter:
Avb sold vdv, bale and modric and bought us Chadli, cheers for that! #thfc— michael sherman (@shermdogg7) November 28, 2013
The real question is why is Nacer Chadli (a winger) playing CAM and Gylfi Sigurdsson (a CAM) playing on the wing? #THFC— Spurs Fans (@spursfan942) November 28, 2013
Chadli is so poor but when he brings down the ball on his chest from these goals kicks he looks quality #THFC— Charles Wells (@CharlesWells89) November 28, 2013
Chadli was a waste of money! Should send him out in loan #THFC— Bradley Pegg (@BLDPegg) November 28, 2013
