He said of the Everton loanne: "You know, Romelu likes to speak, he's a young boy, he likes to speak, but the only thing that he did not say is why he went to Everton on loan."
"That is the only thing he never said and my last contact with him was to tell (him) exactly that. Why (do) you never say why you are not here?"
But when was that exactly? Well Lukaku in an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live has revealed he has not heard from Chelsea for two months.
He said the last time he heard from Chelsea was '"a couple of months ago" but "I think they are watching my performances."
It all seems totally bizarre to us. Mourinho is clearly irritated about questions regarding the striker, and whatever happened before he went on loan.
Perhaps, if we find out as the manager is insinuating, we may understand the decision a little more, but what we can't get our head around is the lack of contact between Lukaku and Chelsea.
Chelsea are Lukaku's employers, and he is as well as a player, a financial asset. But as a player he sounds totally disengaged with the club, as do other loanees like Thibaut Courtois, while the Kevin de Bruyne loan last season was badly handled, with him said to be preferring to stay in Germany.
The club should have a member of staff tasked with keeping abreast of and in contact with all their loanees, they have over 20 scattered around Europe, and if they do, it needs to be managed a whole lot better.
We have a feeling we have not heard the end of this one, but for Chelsea fans just wanting the talented player to come back and play for them, it's all turning rather sour.
