Injury blow as Liverpool transfer target tears knee ligaments

Liverpool target Dennis Aogo has suffered a cruel blow.

Liverpool's left-back position is up for grabs at present, with Aly Cissokho disappointing and Jon Flanagan as of yet not having the chance to prove himself consistently.

If he fails to step up in Luis Enrique's absence, and loanee Cissokho does not improve, the Reds are likely to be looking at a new signing, to cover for and compete with the Spaniard when he is fit again.

One name mentioned earlier in November was Dennis Aogo, a left-back who plays for Schalke and who is on loan from Hamburg, linked by The Express.

The defender is on the fringes of the German national team, playing for them in June, and is highly rated.

The 26-year-old's contract expires in 2015, and rumour had it he could have been available for just £2.5 million.

Now Liverpool can cross him off the list, for he has suffered a nightmare knee injury which could end his season.

The Bundesliga website report: "Dennis Aogo is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after tearing the cruciate ligament in his right knee during training.

"The diagnosis was confirmed after an MRI scan on Friday."

Onto the next one...
