West Ham have struggled for goals this season and a striker will be the club's priority target in January
The Mirror have reported that Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac is on West Ham United's transfer target list for January. Sam Allardyce will want to bring in a few players to help turnaround the club's fortunes and obviously due to the lack of goals, a striker will be the priority.
This transfer hit list is supposedly 20 names long. Allardyce has done his homework along with his scouts and they have identified 20 possible targets for January. Perhaps only 3 or 4 will be signed but it is intriguing to know that they have so many potential targets.
So who else joins Andre-Pierre Gignac on this 20 man transfer hit list?
I would think that roughly two thirds of those players at least, will be strikers. West Ham's main man Andy Carroll has yet to play a game for the club this season. although he may be nearing a return very shortly. However fellow striker Ricardo Vaz te is also out with a long term injury, and Mladen Petric and Carlton Cole are only on short-term contracts.
Nikica Jelavic was a name mentioned last week, as he is currently finding himself on the Everton bench rather than the starting eleven. The Metro reported that West Ham may look to sign the Croatian on a loan deal.
Jordan Rhodes has shown that he is more than capable of finding the net in the Championship on a regular basis, and many Premier League clubs have been linked with a move for the Scottish international. Blackburn Rovers will obviously be wanting to keep hold of their prized asset, but Rhodes' head could be turned if an offer comes in.
Diego Forlan was another name linked with West Ham last week, the former United player is currently playing for Internacional in Brazil. The Mirror reported this link last week, and Diego may just fancy another shot at England.
Emmanuel Adebayor's time at White Hart Lane looks to be up, and whilst he has a hefty wage to contend with, Big Sam will know that he can provide the firepower needed to guide The Hammers to safety.
Jermaine Defoe is another Spurs striker who could be on his way out. Although he left Upton Park in sour circumstances, given the club's current situation they would jump at the chance to have the natural goalscorer back at the club.
Chris Samba has been linked with a return to England. He is currently in Russia with Dynamo Moscow, The Express reported that West Ham and Newcastle United could be interested in signing the former QPR and Blackburn defender.
Jese Rodriguez of Real Madrid has been linked to the club in the past and could provide a cheap, loan option.
Demba Ba is another former Hammer who could find himself looking for a new club in January. He has failed to establish himself at Chelsea, but if made available there would be many clubs interested in signing him.
Clint Dempsey looks set for a return to the Premier League at least on a loan deal. The Seattle Sounders player left Spurs for the MLS this summer, but given that their season is finished he could move back to England on a short term deal.
Alfred Finnbogason is another player to be linked with both West Ham and Newcastle. The Heerenveen striker has scored a remarkable 14 goals in 11 league games so far this season, and has plenty of admirers.
So there are a few possibilities that might be on Big Sam's 20 man January hit list. Hammers fans will be hoping plenty of improvements can be made.
