Tottenham latest: Sigurdsson doesn't fear Champions as side builds up to United

Some of the stories related to Tottenham Hotspur FC on this Friday evening

Gylfi Sigurdsson has said there is no need for Spurs to fear another battering at the hand of a Manchester club going into this weekend’s clash against Manchester United at White Hart Lane.

The midfielder is quoted into the Evening Standard saying that the side doesn’t need to worry too much about their league position and they can take the confidence from last night’s 2-0 win over Tromso in the Europa League in Sunday’s match against United.

‘The performance on Sunday was not good enough but we got the three points against Tromso and we need another three points on Sunday.

‘We need to make sure we do our job and not worry about what message [beating United] would sent to the rest of the league. We beat them away last season and drew at home, so if we can continue that it would be a positive thing.’

The Daily Mirror is reporting that the trio of Jermain Defoe, Kyle Walker and Paulinho will be recalled to the Spurs squad for Sunday’s match against the Champions after they all missed last night’s Europa League win.

Defender Vlad Chriches has said he is excited ahead of Sunday’s game, telling the Tottenham website he’d love nothing more than to beat United.

He said: ‘We need to make sure we play a good game and play a nice type of football for our supporters to be proud of.

‘If we play to our best we can win against all of the teams we play.’

Lewis Holtby has said everyone in the side will give their all on Sunday as they look to respond in the best possible way to last week’s hammering.

Holtby told the Spurs website:It will be a tough game and we’ll put everything into it – everything has to be 100% against United or it will be difficult.

‘We’ve spoken about the City game and we’re all determined to show a different side of the team, a different face.’
