Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has said he thinks Romelu Lukaku should say why he is at Everton rather than at Chelsea after the Belgian striker did an interview saying he hadn’t had contact with the Mourinho.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s game with Southampton on Sunday, Mourinho responded to a question about Lukaku saying: ‘He’s a young boy he likes to speak but the only thing he didn’t say is why he did go to Everton on loan. That’s the only thing he never said. My last contact with him was to tell him exactly that. ‘You never say, why you are not here’.
Mourinho said that he hasn’t been surprised by the side that Southampton have made for the season, but thinks it may be hard for them to maintain their position come the end of the season.
‘His team is very compact, very solid and they are doing very, very well. Can they finish top 4, I think it’s very difficult because it would be very difficult for the six title contenders to finish in the top four. For sure they will have a very good season and for sure the match will be very difficult for us on Sunday.’
He was also full of praise for Ashley Cole’s attitude despite him playing second fiddle to Cesar Azpilicueta in some of the recent games, but said it was because Azpilicueta’s performances had been ‘fantastic’.
