Some of the key stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Friday morning.
Liverpool have entered the race for Barcelona full-back Martin Montoya according to many reports in the press this morning. There has been some speculation for a while but given who is reporting the news, and the amount of sources reporting it, it would seem Liverpool do have a genuine interest in the full-back.
However the Liverpool Echo understands that an agreement is not yet close due to interest from other European clubs.
15 years on from his debut and tributes are being paid to Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, with Vegard Heggem recalling the time he was substituted so Gerrard could make his first team bow in a 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers.
He told the Liverpool Echo: ‘I just remember how shy and skinny he was back then. I was surprised how quickly he went from his first session at Melwood to making his debut at Anfield. It was a really short period.
‘There was a buzz when he came on as it was a great boost for the fans to see another local boy coming through.’
Henderson told the Liverpool Echo: ‘It was just one of those things – we’ve all done things like that before. It was a big chance in the game but that’s football. You just have to deal with it and move on and I’m sure Joe has already done that.
‘Joe is a top player. He has showed that since he’s come to Liverpool. In some of the games he’s been brilliant.’
Poyet seems to indicate that Borini will get some minutes under his belt at Sunderland.
He is quoted in the Daily Mirror, saying: ‘To be honest, I would like to talk with him, not the agents. That would be nice. He is very useful, he is a very important player for us and he is a player who has been unlucky. He needs to play.’
