When Arsenal’s Champions’ League group was drawn it was immediately dubbed the ‘Group of Death’ and it has lived up to that haunting billing.
With one game left two of three teams could still make it to the next round of the Champions League - with the team that drops out likely to become the immediate favourite to win the Europa League.
Arsenal are on 12 points with one game remaining - which would usually be enough to see a team through. But thanks to the woeful form of bottom club Marseille the Gunners must avoid defeat to Napoli in Campania to be assured of a place in the next round - although it would have to be a heavy defeat considering the goal difference in question.
Meanwhile Borussia Dortmund must beat Marseille at the Stade Velodrome to have any chance of making it to the next round of the competition - as their injury ravaged season looks like costing them a similar run to the final of European football's premier competition.
Napoli though are in just as much peril - as Arsenal have a terrific run of results away from home in the Champions League - which they will hope to continue in the Stadio San Paolo.
Napoli have hit some poor form recently, and talking to a local radio station former West Ham midfielder Valon Behrami made it clear that they were not giving up on the Champions League just yet:
“We have nine points; we could finish on 12 and still go out. We have to do our job and win against Arsenal, while Marseille could do us a favour against Borussia.”
